What We Know: Autism & Georgia

  • Autism is a developmental disorder

  • Currently, 1 in 6 children in the U.S. have one or more developmental disabilities or other developmental delays

  • According to the CDC (2023), approximately 1 in 36 children are being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder 

  • Georgia is the 41st state to pass legislation surrounding ABA coverage

  • Georgia is currently diagnosing 1 in 64 kids with ASD

  • As of May 2023, there were 856 BCBA's in the state of Georgia to service approximately 40,000 children with ASD (1:46 ratio)

  • Ava’s law was passed in 2015 which increased the limits on coverage for those diagnosed with autism and in 2018, Georgia Medicaid also decided to provide ABA coverage to those with a diagnosis of ASD, widening the population of individuals who could access care.
